Food Miles Campaign

Buying local organic supports our Saskatchewan Organic Farmers and reduces food miles that contribute to climate change. SOD's Food Miles Campaign is working to increase access to Saskatchewan Organic Food.

We recently completed the study Assessing Saskatoon's Local Organic Production and Potential Institutional Market - March 2009 (pdf 1.3MB) by Jennifer Bromm (SOD) and Cameron McRae (CHEP) as part of our effort to strengthen regional economies and create local jobs, minimize our carbon footprint and reduce reliance on oil-based farm chemicals, and encourage both sustainable consumerism and organic agricultual practices.

Organic Agriculture Protection Fund

The SOD Organic Agriculture Protection Fund Committee raises awareness and mobilizes citizens to stop GMOs from contaminating organic crops, fields and foods in Canada. From 2001 to 2007 the OAPF led a court action against Monsanto and Bayer. The Committee is currently campaigning to stop GMO alfalfa, and monitoring the situation with wheat and flax.
