Wheat Commissions

Controversy over the implementation of the federal government’s law to end its monopoly over the sale of all wheat and barley grown in Western Canada

The government ended the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) via a process that might not have been legal and this controversy has initiated several court battles. The Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board has filed a class-action lawsuit in Federal Court asking the court to restore the board and give farmers $17 billion in damages. There is also a lawsuit filed by wheat board supporters which seeks $15.4 billion in damages.
